Workshop:
Moulding small volumes

Instructor :
Andréas Grau

This workshop focuses on learning the moulding process, not on creating a mould for a specific piece of work or starting a production process. It will, however, enable you to lay the foundations for independent moulding work.

Objective: This course is aimed at anyone who wants to learn the different techniques for moulding small-volume pieces.

Moulding small parts has a number of special features, which will be studied and worked on during this three-day course.

At the end you will have made moulds of 1 to 3 parts. You will know how to prepare bubble-free plaster for casting moulds and stamping moulds.

During this course, we will concentrate on moulding small parts, often used for ceramic jewellery, but not only.

After a little theory, you’ll make 4 moulds in all; we’ll start with an open mould and work our way up to a 3-part mould (with increasing and progressive difficulty).

The objects to be moulded are provided, so that you can tackle the different moulding problems and, above all, their solutions. Each object has its own particular difficulties and the different solutions envisaged to resolve them.
