Workshop :

Goldsmithing techniques for ceramics

Instructor :
Violaine Ulmer

The physical qualities of ceramic jewellery (small size, difficulty of piercing, fragility of porcelain) make it particularly difficult to assemble. Classical jewellery-making is an option for creating suitable assemblies, careful finishes and adding value to ceramic pieces.

The aim of this course is to focus on working with metal, understanding its particular qualities and constraints, but also all the possibilities it offers.

This course is aimed at anyone wishing to learn about metalwork with a specific view to assembling ceramic modules. Priority will be given to those who have taken part in the ‘Essentials‘ course.

During this course, we will look at the possibilities of hot assembly (brazing).

We will also look at the possibilities of cold assembly (riveting, setting, gluing).

We will look at all the different types of finish, putting into practice those that can be achieved with limited workshop resources (polished, matt, satin, textured finish).

We will work with small ceramic pieces supplied by us.

We’ll give you all the information you need (equipment, tools, suppliers) to set up a small workshop with the minimum of resources.
